    Where O’ Where…

    Thursday, July 18th, 2013

have I been?  It’s been a month since I’ve posted because I took 5 weeks off from doing sessions - a much needed vacation to ‘just be’ with these two goofballs who are growing up way too fast    We’ve had an amazing summer thus far by logging in countless hours at the community pool, lots of weekends at the cabin,  ample time on the baseball field along with oodles of playdates, small camps, long bike rides and outdoors festivals. I’ve had more popsicles and ice cream treats than I care to count and the best part is… it isn’t over!

This was Memorial Day weekend at our cabin and in the midst of that gloriously wonderful, quiet family weekend I realized I desperately needed to slow my life down and simplify this summer. Ahhh.

So now that I’ve gotten a lot of that out of my system just a little I am back to photos and sessions with a newfound enthusiasm and am excited for all the fun sessions that are rolling in on the calendar! :)   I am taking a few more sessions yet in August so if you wanted to take advantage of the late light in the summer and no worries of homework – let me know!

    Maison Galleria Spring Boutique Event!

    Monday, April 23rd, 2012

Just over a week ago I held a spring boutique open house event at the beautiful Maison Galleria in downtown Stillwater - what a great night! We had nearly a dozen women-opened businesses set up tables throughout the store and served wine and dessert . 80+ people came through during the open house to shop and mingle, so fun!   Sadly I got so caught up chatting with old friends and meeting new ones I never took any photos with the exception of some table set ups at the beginning of the party.

Thank you!!! To all the wonderful women who brought their merchandise in to sell and provided door prize giveaways! and THANK YOU to all the shoppers who came on down to support me and the businesses that night – it was a wonderful evening and I am grateful for your friendship! Too bad we don’t have any fun party pics from the evening. If you want any information any of the people who were selling let me know and I can connect you.

New {Modern Headshots} for savvy business professionals!

    Saturday, March 31st, 2012

With having a small business myself I find so much enjoyment in meeting and connecting with other women doing the same thing. Being a mom and running a small business, no matter how big or small is a ton of work! But a ton of rewarding work at that :)  I find often times women refer to their businesses as ‘the first baby’ or ‘third baby’ or whatever number it may be because it truly is like having a child in the fact you are most likely thinking about that business ALL. THE. TIME. Well maybe not allll the time but it’s somewhere in the back of your head most of the time.  It seems that while note working you are inspired about something you want to do for your business or you think about something you are working on or needs to be done for your business, or maybe that is just me and quite possibly, because I love what I do :)   However it shakes out, I am always drawn to and love talking to other women who light up when speaking of their passion, their small business, their ‘other child’ so to speak.

Here are a few fabulous women I’ve had the chance to meet over the course of the past few weeks – talented, compassionate, savvy, and seeking the balance we allstrive to meet with our families.

Sunrise each morning from our deck – was really hard to leave this!  Horses at the ranch below.

One of my favorite family traditions of all time!

For the 15th straight spring break in a row we headed to Winter Park, Colorado for some spring skiing with my family and it was amazing as always. My sister moved out west 16 years ago and after a fabulous ski trip her first winter out there we’ve been going ever since. We continue to go to Winter Park because my parents can take the Amtrak train right into downtown Fraser so it works out so slick and has become something we look forward to all year long.

Over the years we have watched Winter Park go from a fairly small family/local Denver ski area to a bustling, international Ski village that has hit the map as a popular ski desination.  To accomodate our growing family  we have been staying at the YMCA Snow Mountain Ranch for the past 10 years and it’s SO AWESOME for anyone who heads to this area with their kids and want recomendations on lodging. You are just 10 minutes from the mountain and the cabins/ranch can comfortably fit your whole family with tons of great family-oriented activites. My kids have as much if not more fun at the cabin and ranch with all the offer – swimming, roller skating, sledding and skating and one of their very favorites, the arts and crafts center. We spend hours there each visit and it’s a highlight because you can choose anything your heart desires, huge creations that would involve a lot of time and $ at Michael’s arts and crafts to orchestrate not to mention a huge mess at home so this is a win/win for us all :)

Here are just a few highlights from our trip this year. I had promised my family I’d only bring a small, old camera so that I’d not be preoccupied with taking photos so it was tough for me at times – being surrounded by such beauty and not having my usual equipment but I was better able to focus on the quality time together which we had tons of and it was so wonderful and nothing can compare to that :)

our cabin nestled in the hill. the grounds used to be buried in tall pines but a beetle came in over the past 5-8 years and destroyed many of them :(

tiny town of empire on the way up the pass.

we all painted something to be fired in the kiln – not an arts n crafts project we take on after school at our house :)   and every nite is game nite or cards.

My Photography Display in Maison Galleria ~ Downtown Stillwater

Maison Galleria  / Live Beautifully ~ Decorate Passionately

One of the very best things about living in Stillwater is downtown Mainstreet. Contrary to what some of my western suburban friends tend to think :) (you know who you are!), and from what I remember growing up and visiting my grandparents, downtown is not just about antique shopping.  I mean YES, they are still there but they are not the majority yet they add so much charm and character to this historic town.

What does in fact, fill the quaint retail landscape is a wide variety of boutique clothing and gift stores, stylish home decorating shops, wine bars, hair salons, photography studios, art galleries, and pretty much anything & everything your palette desires in terms of cuisine. It’s truly a wonderful place to visit during every season because of the walkability along with the variety of shops you can experience in such close proximity. Not to mention, every other week or so there tends to be a festive community/family event, a Ladies Night Out , or an Art Crawl planned – there is always something fun going on!

Since living in Stillwater the past couple of years my family and I have come to love and spend a great deal of time enjoying all downtown has to offer.  One of my very favorite stores is Maison Galleria  - mainly a home decor store but they also carry jewelry, hats, scarves, baby headbands and hats by Fancy Schmancy Pretties and other gifts as well as an interior decorating service.  I love this beautiful store not just for the wide variety of products they have but as much for it’s warm and inviting ambiance and friendly sales staff.  When invited to collaborate on a photography display inside the store I was thrilled!  What an honor and such a beautiful place for me display a little gallery of my images. The project is nearly complete – we are still searching for the perfect chandelier to illuminate the room as well as some other items to spruce it up. But for the most part, it’s together and I’m excited to share this with you and hope you will go and check it out when you are down along mainstreet!  I will be changing up the displays upon the approval of my clients so you just never know who you may recognize on the walls :)

If you get a chance to get downtown this weekend (actually, beginning today), Maison Galleria along with 15 other stores are having a  ‘rummage sale’ or bazaar type sales where they are closing out holiday items and have brought in past merchandise and even personal items to sell so it’s kind of a unique opportunity to hit some big sales.

Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice

    Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

Last fall I had the priviledge of doing some promotional modeling photos for a talented seamstress and it was so much fun!  A graphic designer by trade, Rachel at Sweet Pea and Company makes these gorgeous dresses for all occasions – party and play!  Her Etsy storefront shop is www.sweetpeaandco.etsy.com where she currently sells her handmade clothing, blankets, pillows, and onesies.  I love the rich colors  in her fabric selections and was most impressed by her attention to all the little details as well as the quality of her work. Many of her dresses are reversible so you luck out with 2 dresses in one, how perfect is that!? She also does custom orders per request.

We did the photos with a handful of adorable little models over the course of 2 days at both my studio in downtown Minneapolis as well as Aamodt’s Apple Orchard in Stillwater on a windy fall day.  What a blast it was to watch the girls become fast friends as they ran around exploring the grounds and playing together.  Sandi from at Fancy Schmancy Pretties http://www.facebook.com/Fancyschmancypretties provided most of the hair bows and headbands to adorn their hair for our outdoor session. A supermom of 4 young children, she makes these  in all her spare time :) They are also available for purchase at the unique home decor store, Maison Galleria http://maisongalleria.com/ located on main street in downtown Stillwater.

MEA Staycation – Local Family Fun Ideas

    Friday, October 21st, 2011

A few people have asked me ‘what type of fun fall activites is your family doing this weekend?’, since I tend to enjoy sharing events going on around town. So!  I thought I’d post a few of the things we have been and will be hitting this weekend with friends and all of these activities go  through next weekend as well.

The first place listed is Axdahl’s Garden Farm in STillwater, at the intersection of Manning and 75th, right off of hwy 36.http://axdahlfarms.com/season_fall.shtml  They have hayrides, petting zoo, corn maze, pumpkin patch, and this year a new ‘Spookley the Square Pumpkin’ movie that plays for kids. I was advised that you’ll want little kids packed up and gone around 6 pm as the actors for the evening ‘scare maze’ start arriving around 6:30 pm and they are SCARY!

Next place is Country Sun Farms, right off of Hwy 36 in Lake Elmo, on your way to Stillwater. Hayrides, pumpkin patch, petting zoo, fossil finding, corn maze, face painting, bounce house, and concessions on site. http://countrysunfarm.net/

Another fun activity we did last year and are doing tonite with some friends is the ‘Ghost Trolley’ in Linden Hills Minneapolis, right on Lake Harriet. The kids thought it was so much fun to ride the trolley in the dark! Each year they bring some local school age and teenage actors out to do a little bit of a ‘spooky’ story of sorts. http://www.trolleyride.org/

And last but not least, the Como Zoo ‘Zoo Boo’ is going on this weekend and next. http://www.comozooconservatory.org/

Have fun and enjoy the amazing, picture worthy weather as you are out with your families!!

    Happy Mother’s Day!

    Monday, May 9th, 2011

Wow. I’ve had this blog set up for over a year and have never posted – not even once! Prior to this blog I was such a regular user on my old blogger blog, in case you’ve seen it. I plan to do a much better job here going forward, updating session highlights and other announcements and information. The thing is I LOVE to write, almost as much as I love to talk and listen :) so if time was not an obstacle I’d be posting here often but I won’t get too far ahead of myself.  I thought tho, I’d start it off on a great note – at the end of a perfectly wonderful, Mother’s Day.  So for all you moms out there – I hope you enjoyed yourself today or over the weekend. And for those of you who have moms I hope you spent some time with her or perhaps rang her on the telephone. I know I was blessed and lucky to do both this weekend, spend time with my own mom and also a wonderful day with my children. It was a great day.  Thank you for stopping by and please check in often, for session photos!
