  • 2011 Year in Review {Family Sessions}

    February 3rd, 2012

WOW what a year! I knew I was busy and covered a lot of territory across the metro but I guess I didn’t realize the full scope of that ‘busy-ness’ until I started to pull this highlight segment together.  Look at how much fun I had!  I am so blessed to have a job that allows me to continually meet and spend time with so many wonderful people and families, many of them year after year.

Over the past 4 years of  Teresa Hermes Photography  I have come to realize that documenting a family with my camera is by far, my favorite type of session.  And by family I mean 2 or more people :)   Of course I love photographing individual babies/children.  And yes! I love photographing grownups too as you’ve maybe seen a lot more headshot sessions popping up on my facebook page this past year.  I love the variety I am able to achieve in these sessions because an adult is a bit more reliable in following cues and directions than a 2 year old is :) It’s simply a different kind of energy that goes into these sessions.  So I do love it all and how no two sessions are ever the same – I thrive on that! But I find I am most fulfilled and enriched by documenting a family.   I think much of this stems from watching my own children grow up much faster than I ever believed they would – and how much I cherish every image I have of our interactions together – playing, hugging, kissing.  It takes those special moments and freezes them on paper… forever. I am continually looking at our photos and marveling at how quickly they went from  baby to toddler to school aged siblings in no time at all.  This is what makes me so passionate about capturing your interactions – the silly smiles and laughs, the tender hugs and kisses, and everything in between.

This post is just a quick snapshot of it all! I wish I could include all my sessions but the post was growing too long as it was. You can view most all of my sessions on my facebook page http://www.facebook.com/#!/teresahermesphotography if you wanted to see something that is missing.

Thank you again to all my friends and clients who allow me to do what I love doing! xo

Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice

    January 25th, 2012

Last fall I had the priviledge of doing some promotional modeling photos for a talented seamstress and it was so much fun!  A graphic designer by trade, Rachel at Sweet Pea and Company makes these gorgeous dresses for all occasions – party and play!  Her Etsy storefront shop is www.sweetpeaandco.etsy.com where she currently sells her handmade clothing, blankets, pillows, and onesies.  I love the rich colors  in her fabric selections and was most impressed by her attention to all the little details as well as the quality of her work. Many of her dresses are reversible so you luck out with 2 dresses in one, how perfect is that!? She also does custom orders per request.

We did the photos with a handful of adorable little models over the course of 2 days at both my studio in downtown Minneapolis as well as Aamodt’s Apple Orchard in Stillwater on a windy fall day.  What a blast it was to watch the girls become fast friends as they ran around exploring the grounds and playing together.  Sandi from at Fancy Schmancy Pretties http://www.facebook.com/Fancyschmancypretties provided most of the hair bows and headbands to adorn their hair for our outdoor session. A supermom of 4 young children, she makes these  in all her spare time :) They are also available for purchase at the unique home decor store, Maison Galleria http://maisongalleria.com/ located on main street in downtown Stillwater.

Client Mini Sessions ~ Fall 2011

    December 15th, 2011

Along the St. Anthony River, Minneapolis Minnesota

    October 24th, 2011

I love meeting new families! It was a perfectly gorgeous fall evening when I met up with this beautiful family and rightly so as we had gotten rained out several weeks prior!  I first got to watch them enjoy playing soccer and football together and then we ran around and had a great time. We ended the session on and under the Stone Arch Bridge – doing a little twirling on the bridge and a bit of stone skipping in the Mississippi below. Thank you so much for letting me meet your family and spend the evening together!

MEA Staycation – Local Family Fun Ideas

    October 21st, 2011

A few people have asked me ‘what type of fun fall activites is your family doing this weekend?’, since I tend to enjoy sharing events going on around town. So!  I thought I’d post a few of the things we have been and will be hitting this weekend with friends and all of these activities go  through next weekend as well.

The first place listed is Axdahl’s Garden Farm in STillwater, at the intersection of Manning and 75th, right off of hwy 36.http://axdahlfarms.com/season_fall.shtml  They have hayrides, petting zoo, corn maze, pumpkin patch, and this year a new ‘Spookley the Square Pumpkin’ movie that plays for kids. I was advised that you’ll want little kids packed up and gone around 6 pm as the actors for the evening ‘scare maze’ start arriving around 6:30 pm and they are SCARY!

Next place is Country Sun Farms, right off of Hwy 36 in Lake Elmo, on your way to Stillwater. Hayrides, pumpkin patch, petting zoo, fossil finding, corn maze, face painting, bounce house, and concessions on site. http://countrysunfarm.net/

Another fun activity we did last year and are doing tonite with some friends is the ‘Ghost Trolley’ in Linden Hills Minneapolis, right on Lake Harriet. The kids thought it was so much fun to ride the trolley in the dark! Each year they bring some local school age and teenage actors out to do a little bit of a ‘spooky’ story of sorts. http://www.trolleyride.org/

And last but not least, the Como Zoo ‘Zoo Boo’ is going on this weekend and next. http://www.comozooconservatory.org/

Have fun and enjoy the amazing, picture worthy weather as you are out with your families!!

    Wulff Family Fall Family Photos!

    October 18th, 2011

I met up with this family at the Sculpture Gardens and couldn’t believe how big the boys had gotten until we realized it had been 3 YEARS! since we last took photos – where does the time go? The boys had just come from soccer and a birthday party and they were up for all the fun that the grounds of the Sculpture Garden had to offer! It was a perfect weather day if you were running around, a little chilly if you were standing still but never mind that with 2 fun boys!  We also lucked out with lots of big, dry and crunchy leaves for throwing and loved how at the end of our session we could throw and jump and yes, some friendly brotherly love tackles with the leaves -some of my favorite images from our session! :)

Fall Family Photos Along the St. Croix

    October 18th, 2011

What a neat family photo session I had during our short ‘peak’ season of color this year with the family of 15. It was about as perfect of a day as you could ask for in early October, running along the river, climbing the rocks, playing with leaves and I believe when I left, they investigated the caves. This is one of my favorite spots for family photo sessions but unfortunately it was under water for most of the summer, so I was happy to be back this fall. Enjoy!

    Beautiful Simonson Family

    October 13th, 2011

Love this family! I met them back in ECFE when our eldest children were 2 or 3 years old! Feels like forever ago yet just like yesterday. At the time her youngest was just turning 1 and learning to walk – he was one of my first subjects other than my own kids, when I had just started kicking around the idea of taking this love of photography a bit more seriously. So every time I see her son I fondly remember chasing him around the park fountain, trying to get him to stand still, and just how sweet he was and still is. It’s so much fun to photograph children at various stages in life and am so honored when I get the chance to do periodically over the years, and watch them grow. This family is so fun and playful and these boys are sure going to be heartbreakers when they are older!

    Magical Lake Minnetonka

    October 13th, 2011

I had the pleasure of meeting up with this beautiful family for an evening boat ride on the calm or gorgeous, Lake Minnetonka. What a perfect September evening it was – love these guys!
